The Swan Coach House Gallery and the Forward Arts Foundation are pleased to present Lucinda’s World, Part 2: A Collection of Collectionswhich will open on January 15 and run through February 20, 2015. This exhibition is the second in a series of three that honor the work of Atlanta photographer, philanthropist, and art collector, Lucinda Bunnen.
Beyond her interest in collecting art, Bunnen has been a prodigious collector of many things. A Collection of Collections is a series of 27 photographs that she began creating earlier this year when she decided to assemble and document some of these collections. Each piece represents a different collection.
Represented in this exhibition are images of a broad range of her many fascinating accumulations. They vary from such common items as Coca Cola memorabilia, stamps, and old coins to more unusual collections of heart-shaped rocks, cow figurines, old locks and even chanterelles (that she collected, photographed and consumed the same day). The most interesting photographs, however, expose a more distinctive and playful side of her collecting activities. Included among this group are images of carefully arranged detritus accumulated while on the island of Kauai, a grouping of individual tree images she had previously photographed then re-shot as a single image, and vintage clothing from her closet modeled by Violet Chachki, a famous Atlanta drag queen.
This exhibition is sponsored by Wendy Barton in honor of her mother, Eleanor Barton.
