LAYLA FELDER (2012-PRESENT)

I saw my first opera when I was 3 years old and I have loved opera ever since.  As of October 6, 2013, I have seen 60 opera to date. When I went to the movie theatre this weekend to see the first Met Opera Live in HD performance of the season – Eugene Onegin, and sat down in my usual seat, looked around, and saw them doing the sound and screen testing, I felt like I came back to my second home.  It was one of the best feelings I have ever had.  I started the Kids Opera & Art Posse because I think that not only elderly people should be sitting at the opera.  I think people of every age should be sitting in the audience watching opera because lots of people used to do it when they didn’t have movies.  I invited my friends to be in this club because when they grow up, they will still like operas, and will take their kids to operas, and so on, and opera will keep going hopefully until the end of time.  My favorite opera is “Carmen.”  My favorite opera company is The Metropolitan Opera, and my favorite singers are Anna Netrebko, Elīna Garanča, Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Deborah Voigt, Mariusz Kwiecien, Juan Diego Flórez, Piotr Beczala, Renée Fleming.  I have seen operas in New York, London, Venice, Prague, and Atlanta.

I like to go to the museums because I love drawing and I want to become a better artist.  My favorite artist is Frida Kahlo because I think that her art is very expressive and moving, and I really like her painting style.  If she were still alive I would really like to meet her.  I enjoy going to lectures because you can see different types of art and and you can get good advice from the artist and get good information from the questions people in the audience ask.

I love classical music, and my favorite composer is Mozart.  When I am not listening to opera or classical music, I like to listen to Diana Ross, Pearl Bailey, Ella Fitzgerald, Michael Jacskon, Jennifer Hudson, Dreamgirls, all Motown music, stories on CD, world music and NPR.  I love “Car Talk.”  I like to read, laugh, tell  jokes, dress up, draw, build lego, go to the park, ice skate, travel, do puzzles, and watch movies.  My favorite color is blue, my favorite animals are dogs and squirrels and monkeys.  I love holidays and birthdays.  When I grow up, I want to be an opera singer, a writer, and a photographer.
