ATLANTA OPERA: RIGOLETTO
The subject of one of Verdi’s greatest operas, the hunchbacked jester Rigoletto turns his mind to vengeance when he cannot protect the person he most loves from the person he most loathes. Recently premiered at Boston Lyric Opera, this new production directed by General & Artistic Director Tomer Zvulun, was hailed by the Boston Globe as “delivering the kind of energetic performance … that had audiences rising swiftly to its feet.”
In this new co-production with Boston Lyric Opera and Opera Omaha, leading Verdi baritone Todd Thomas sings the title role and rising American soprano Nadine Sierra debuts as his innocent daughter, Gilda. Tenor Scott Quinn makes his company debut as the lascivious Duke of Mantua, and Atlanta native Morris Robinson sings the role of the assassin, Sparafucile. Joseph Rescigno conducts this production, sets by celebrated American designer John Conklin, costumes by Vita Tzykun, and lighting by Robert Wierzel.
