PORGY & BESS PRIVATE LECTURE BY WILL BERGER

Will Berger, esteemed author, radio host, commentator and hosted a private lecture for KAOP on the history and significance of Porgy & Bess prior to the historic Met Opera Live in HD Worldwide Broadcast. Porgy & Bess has nor been performed at The Metropolitan Opera in 25 years. According to the Gershwin Estate, Porgy & Bess may only be staged as a complete opera with an all African-American Cast. Songs from Porgy & Bess may only be sung in recital by white singers as per Gershwin’s wishes. Though some opera houses have not adhered to the wishes of Gershwin, I can say that The Metropolitan Opera has done a magnificent job in the 2019-2020 season of bringing this work to life with an incredible cast.
